Description
This poster was produced to promote the opening of Small Change (L’Argent de Poche), François Truffaut’s 1976 film, for a special screening at the Red Vic Movie House in San Francisco on February 28, 2010. Designed by Chuck Sperry, the print reflects his characteristic approach to poster art, drawing on Art Nouveau–influenced line work and symbolic imagery to reinterpret classic cinema through a contemporary graphic lens. Issued as part of the Red Vic’s ongoing program of artist-commissioned film posters, the piece underscores the venue’s role as a hub for repertory cinema and independent film culture in San Francisco. Printed by Hanger 18 in Oakland and released as a signed and numbered edition, this poster stands at the intersection of film history and modern poster art, illustrating how classic European cinema continues to be recontextualized for new audiences through limited-edition screenprints.
