Description
This poster documents a June 14, 2002 performance at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia featuring Beth Orton and James Yorkston, two artists associated with the introspective, genre-blurring strand of early-2000s indie and folk music. At the time, Beth Orton was touring in support of Daybreaker, continuing her transition from electronica-inflected folk toward a more organic, song-centered sound, while James Yorkston was emerging as a key voice in the UK’s contemporary folk revival, closely tied to the Fence Collective. The poster was designed collaboratively by Judy Gex, David Crosland, and Jeff Wood, and printed by Drowning Creek Studio, a workshop known for its hand-pulled concert posters during this period. Issued as a signed and numbered edition of 100, the piece reflects the early-2000s moment when thoughtfully produced screenprints became a standard visual counterpart to intimate, artist-driven live performances in the indie music circuit.
