Description

CAN-A-BLIS is a classic counterculture advertising poster designed by Rick Griffin for the Berkeley Bonaparte head shop series, a group of iconic late-1960s and early-1970s prints that cleverly parodied mainstream commercial branding. Drawing visual inspiration from vintage tobacco packaging, Griffin reimagines the concept through a psychedelic lens, blending bold typography, saturated color, and cannabis iconography. The poster was issued in three distinct printings: the first featuring a gold-toned central field, the second (as offered here) printed with a bright yellow center, and a later European edition comprising the third printing. Widely regarded as one of Griffin’s most playful and recognizable retail posters, CAN-A-BLIS reflects the era’s fusion of graphic design, humor, and underground culture at the height of the San Francisco psychedelic movement.
