Description

This poster documents a May 27, 2010 performance at the Fillmore in San Francisco featuring Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros with Dawes, capturing a moment when both bands were emerging as central figures in the late-2000s revival of folk-leaning, harmony-driven rock. Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros were touring in support of Up from Below, whose communal, gospel-inflected sound and large rotating lineup translated into celebratory live shows, while Dawes were gaining recognition for their Laurel Canyon–influenced songwriting and musicianship. Designed collaboratively by Matt Leunig and Arlene Owseichik, the poster forms part of the Fillmore’s long-running series of commissioned concert artwork, produced to document touring acts passing through the venue. Issued as an offset lithograph and printed by Great Impressions in South San Francisco, the piece serves as a visual record of a period when roots-oriented indie bands were finding wide audiences while still operating within intimate theater settings.
