Description

This poster documents an August 9, 2001 performance at The Fillmore featuring Tricky with support from Emiliana Torrini, a pairing that highlights the atmospheric, genre-blurring edge of early-2000s alternative music. Tricky, a key figure to emerge from the Bristol trip-hop scene, was touring material that continued to push dark, rhythm-driven experimentation, while Emiliana Torrini brought a more intimate, melodic counterpoint rooted in folk and electronic pop. The poster was designed collaboratively by Joel Elrod and Arlene Owseichik, and produced as part of the Fillmore’s long-running poster series. Printed by Great Impressions in South San Francisco as an offset lithograph, the piece serves as a visual record of a moment when the Fillmore regularly hosted forward-thinking, internationally influential artists whose work defied strict genre boundaries.
